Why should I make homemade chocolate?

There are a number of misunderstandings about chocolate’s nutritional value that are prevalent in today’s society. One of these being that it negatively contributes towards a good diet. Yet, if you use organic raw chocolate & organic ingredients to create your homemade chocolate. There can be many health benefits.

Most of the chocolate on the market is not raw and is heated or roasted to a high temperature. Which means it does not contain any of the nutrients, antioxidants, minerals, and flavanols that cocoa has to offer.

Interestingly, the flavanols in chocolate can be beneficial to the health of the uterus. And, may act as an anti-inflammatory as well as help to prevent certain cancers.

You should ensure that the chocolate is organic too. As cocoa is one of the most commonly sprayed crops in the world. Furthermore South American chocolate is often a better choice. Because it contains less toxins.

Ingredients

Method:

  1. Slowly melt the chocolate at a very low temperature to keep all the nutrients in.
  2. Add the cocoa powder and coconut bliss until you reach a good consistency with the melted chocolate.
  3. Take the bowl off the heat and let it cool down for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the chosen protein powder and thoroughly mix in.
  5. Then add 3 drops of stevia and mix well.
  6. Keep adding the stevia drops if it does not reach your desired sweetness. I would recommend doing this in drops of 3’s.
  7. Add Steenbergs organic orange or mint oil if you want. (Optional)
  8. Place the chocolate mixture into molds or into a suitable pot. Where it can be placed in the freezer until it is set.

Variations & Substitutions

You may modify this recipe over time to suit your own preference which is fine.

Some may find that the chocolate can be too bitter the first time round. If this is the case you can reduce the amount of cocoa powder used. Also, if the chocolate is too ‘melty’ for your liking. Then you can exchange the coconut bliss for organic cocoa butter. Which will help it have a more stable hold.

Organic dried fruit without sugar or organic nuts can be added to the chocolate. Which can increase the flavour & health benefits. Just be mindful not to overload.
